DeepSeek Harness FAQ
Long-tail questions that map to search intent around DeepSeek Harness, harness setup, and coding-agent comparisons. Answers include links into this portal; flags still follow upstream GitHub.
What is DeepSeek Harness?
DeepSeek Harness (often shortened to DSH) is an open-source agent framework in developer preview. The slogan Agent = Model + Harness means the model plans while the harness supplies files, shell, tools, sessions, and UI through Cordis plugins. It is not a new large language model. Start from the install guide after you confirm Node ^22.19.0 or >=24.0.0.
What do DSH and DS Harness mean?
They are informal short names for DeepSeek Harness that show up in chats and search queries. This site treats them as aliases of the same preview product, not as separate downloads. If a blog uses “DS Harness” for something else, ignore it and check the official GitHub repository name deepseek-ai/deepseek-harness.
How do I run it quickly?
After Node is on PATH, the public command is npx @deepseek-ai/dsh web. The Web UI commonly binds http://127.0.0.1:3080/ and dies when you close the terminal. OS-specific notes, keys, and a disposable workspace live on the install page; failures belong on troubleshoot.
What is PTC mode?
PTC (programmatic tool calling) lets the model write a short program that composes several tool calls in one shot, instead of chatting through each hop. Standard remains the daily coding surface. Walkthrough: modes and the PTC vs Standard notes on this site.
Is there an online DeepSeek Harness I can open in the browser?
No hosted cloud UI. You run npx @deepseek-ai/dsh web on your machine and visit http://127.0.0.1:3080/. Keys and workspace files stay local. See install.
Is this website official DeepSeek?
No. harness-ds.com is an independent community portal. We do not issue API keys, we do not speak for Hangzhou DeepSeek, and we do not host a live plugin binary store. Releases, flags, and preview warnings come from GitHub and https://www.deepseek.com/harness/. Read About for how we write.
Is DeepSeek Harness made by ByteDance?
No. DeepSeek Harness (dsh) is published by DeepSeek AI under MIT. It is unrelated to ByteDance agent products. If you searched a ByteDance harness, that is a different product.
How does DeepSeek Harness differ from DeepSeek Chat?
DeepSeek Chat is the consumer chat app. DeepSeek Harness is a local developer framework: Cordis plugins, files, shell, and a Web UI you start yourself. One is open-and-talk; the other is for composing your own agent.
What is Cordis in this project?
Cordis is the kernel that loads plugins and their dependencies. It does not itself own coding skills. That split is why community packages tagged dsh-plugin can add tools, skins, or providers — and why you must read permissions before you install. Authoring notes: plugin guide.
What is Trajectory?
Public materials describe an append-only session log: prompts, tool calls, results, injections. A Trajectory-style view lets you replay, fork, and audit what the model actually saw, instead of only the last chat bubble. Button labels move between preview builds; the idea does not. Walkthrough: observability tutorial and the blog note.
Where do I find community plugins?
They are npm or GitHub packages composed by Cordis. This portal keeps a curated navigator at community plugins plus a UI skins explainer. We will not mirror thousands of thin cards. Full discovery remains the GitHub topic dsh-plugin. Install lines are not a security certification.
DeepSeek Harness vs Claude Code — who wins?
Nobody on this page. DSH is plugin-first MIT preview; Claude Code is a commercial MCP-centric product. Choose by the control surface you must replace later, not by slogans. The matrix, scenarios, and disclaimers live on the comparison page. We do not invent benchmark scores.
Why not rank for the word harness alone?
Because test harnesses, electrical harnesses, and safety harnesses flood that SERP. We bind the word to DeepSeek Harness, DSH, and coding agents, then give each intent its own landing page (install, modes, plugins, compare). Title stuffing the generic noun would help nobody.
Is the preview production-ready?
Treat it as a developer preview: pin versions, review plugin permissions, watch upstream changelogs, and keep secrets out of git. Compatibility will break. Do not point Standard plus shell at payroll data on day one. Pick a mode that matches the job, then come back when the first disposable loop is boringly successful.
Is MIT OK for commercial use?
Upstream deepseek-ai/deepseek-harness is published under MIT — re-read LICENSE on the tag you pin. Community plugins carry their own licenses. This portal does not grant a license.
How does DSH differ from Codex or OpenCode?
DSH is an MIT plugin-first preview harness. Codex is a commercial coding agent; OpenCode is another open coding agent. The matrix this site actually maintains is DeepSeek Harness vs Claude Code.
