Quick start first task
10 min Web UI, model settings, workspace, first prompt.
Goal
Finish a safe first loop: UI up → model configured → workspace selected → prompt answered → tool traces inspected.
Step-by-step
1. Launch with npx @deepseek-ai/dsh web (see previous chapter).
2. Browse to http://127.0.0.1:3080/.
3. Open Settings → Model, paste your DeepSeek API key, pick a model. Never commit keys to git.
4. Choose a workspace — a sample repo you can reset.
5. Send a low-risk task: “List top-level files” or “Summarize README in 5 bullets.”
6. Watch tool calls / traces. If something looks too broad (e.g. deleting files), stop and tighten permissions.
Success criteria
- UI loads on the expected port.
- Model setting persists for the session.
- Workspace paths appear as you expect.
- The agent returns a coherent answer; optional tool traces look intentional.
Common failures
| Symptom | What to check |
|--------|----------------|
| Port in use | Another process on 3080; stop it or change port per upstream docs |
| API errors | Key, model id, quota on official platform |
| No files visible | Wrong workspace root / OS permissions |
